Dr. Sarat Hazarika was born on the 1st of January 1964 in Narayanpur. He started his education at Narayanpur Girls MV School. He passed HSLC in 1978 from Narayanpur Higher Secondary School and was admitted to Arya Vidyapeeth College Gauhati University to study PU Sc. He graduated from the same college with Economics, Statistics, and Mathematics. He passed MA in Economics from Dibrugarh University.
He started his teaching career at Chaiduar College as a lecturer in Economics and later joined Madhabdev College in 1993. He was awarded the Ph.D. degree by the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in 2015 on the topic “The Impact of MGNREGA on Socio-Economic Development of Assam: A Case Study of the Northern Districts of Upper Assam” under the guideship of Prof. BD Nayak MA, Ph.D. He joined as the 4th permanent principal of Madhabdev College on the 5th of October 2016. He is presently guiding a research scholar at the NERIST as the co-supervisor.
Dr. Hazarika has completed UGC sponsored two Minor Research Projects one on the Effectiveness of “National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme on Socio-Economic Development of Assam: A Case Study of the Northern Districts of Upper Assam” and the other one on “Demographic Profile of Khamptis in Assam: A Case Study in Lakhimpur District”. He contributed 10 research papers which are published in International and National Research Journals. He has also presented 8 research papers and participated in 12 National Seminars. Apart from these, he has edited 2 magazines, published 13 articles in magazines, and contributed chapters in Books.
Dr. Sarat Hazarika was the Programme Office of the NSS unit at Chaiduar College and later served the NCC Unit of Madhabdev College from 1996 to 2016. He has attended many Camps with the cadets. He is also a sportsman who played Cricket and Badminton. He took part in the International Himalayan Trekking Programme organized by the Youth Association of India, New Delhi at Kullu and Manali Valley in Himachal Pradesh. He was a football and Volleyball referee. He served Assam Volleyball Association for several years.
